First day in Hungary. Over the border everything feels strangely neat and organised, and having got a bit of a handle on Balkan languages I now have to deal with Hungarian, which sounds completely outlandish. As a friend put it - if you hear someone talking and it doesn't sound like anything you've ever heard, it's probably Hungarian.
Lovely weather, sunny with a light breeze and the heatwave seems to have abated. I travel north on quiet backroads through light forest, only passing through a couple of small towns on the way. First meal in Hungary was good, but I was a bit thrown by page after page of options- in the Balkans you only get about 3 and they're all bread with meat. Late afternoon and the promised storm showers come in, but I manage to wait them out next to a village hall. Round here there's plenty of bits of woodland to camp in, so no problem there. Also, I notice that I broke the 2000km mark a couple of day ago!
